Hans Bauman, a native of Arlington and the owner of HouseMeister LLC, got involved in home construction projects over 30 years ago. As a high school sophomore, he drew the blueprints and did all the electrical wiring for and addition to his parents home in Claremont. Hans ran his own contractor business while studying engineering at the University of Virginia. During a 20 year career in the IT industry, including 13 years with Silicon Valley giant Sun Microsystems, Hans continued his construction work and volunteered his services to Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together.

For several years, Hans salvaged building materials from older Arlington homes which were being torn down for new construction. Between 2011 and 2014, Hans built his own house in the Virginia Blue Ridge mountains using largely materials salvaged from these Arlington homes.

The experience of building a house from scratch was the fulfillment of a dream and an affirmation that Hans should change his career to match his passion. HouseMeister Handyman Services is a culmination of his lifelong efforts to help people care for and improve their homes. Hans also takes regular trips to disaster-struck areas to lead volunteer teams with Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders.
